Mattress Mac where are you and what are you up to?
Looks as if Mac is aiming @ tri-favorites sort of makes sense
Taiba is the favorite in the pick 3 & 4, Epicenter in the double, and pick 5 & 6.
Don't care who he bets on, just wondering what the legalize says, the post time favorite that he is making, or the true pari-mutual favorite, wondering if there is a time cut off, or odds cut off?
Mac bet Epicenter. Wonder how he feels now.
Mac bet more on Epicenter to win than the entire win place show pool combined on Rich Strike!
I\'m thinking that qualifies as a bad beat. I wonder if he bet via Twin Spires and got his money back because he ran 2nd.
Tough beat for all those in Texas who thought they were in line for a big refund from Mac\'s store if Epicenter held on.
Has anyone seen a write-up anywhere summarizing what Mac did and what his thought process was?
Think of Mac's betting as a marketing expense. He presumably gets a lot of business offering this money back deal, and hedges his exposure by betting the favorite. While it probably benefits him if the favorite wins, in terms of generating additional interest in the promo next year, I think it's a wash financially, at least in the short term. So, in other words, not really a bad beat, although I'm sure it would be fun to cash a ticket that size.
From what I understand is that the underwriter could not find anyone to insure the promo anymore, since he runs them so often, that he results to hedging. Read that in an interview of him somewhere a while back. And he does wash, last I heard was 14 million in sales!
