I watch a lot of tape and that ride was bizarre to say the least. The horse is hustled from that gate and easily makes the lead but instead is grabbed to sit off the duel. Appears loaded off the pacesetters in the backstretch and joins the leaders 3 wide on the turn with no urging whatsoever. The horse could have easily passed the front runners at anytime but Lezcano is still motionless while looking at who is coming behind him. Only after he is passed in stretch does he urge the horse to lose by a short head. If this happened in Hong Kong he would hauled before the stewards for a hearing - here probably nothing. The horse was lengths the best, and anybody who bet the horse was robbed.

Based on the outrage on twitter

The rice horse should have been 1/5 , since EVERYONE had it

Not quite. The looking behind was until just past the 1/4 pole,  He rode hard thru the stretch.

Many on  twitter calling for investigations and claiming the fix was in. Doubt it.

There should be an explanation demanded though, as that looked ridiculous.

Jose Ortiz\' ride on Wakanaka in the Honey Fox was another bad look especially when you consider Irad rode the winner for Chad Brown/Brant.

Good Luck,

David Grening tweet today: \"Regarding Jose Lezcano's ride on Foxtail in Sunday's first race at AQU. From NYRA spokesman @PCMckenna
, the stewards spoke with Lezcano after the race and "a formal film review is scheduled for Friday."

At least they are looking at it, but I guess this one was too blatant to ignore. He should get many days regardless of his \"explanation\" to the stewards.

Reminded me of the ride Toby McGuire gave onboard Seabiscuit! Watch out for Rosemont! Wonder if he will tell the stews that he can't see out there.

Unfortunate opaque response from the stewards  on this today.

\" No action, but we\'re still   looking\" ? And no other color .

The stewards may not take action but I wonder how many owners want to take a chance on Lezcano and that dull of a ride on their live mounts in the future.

I love the chart comment:

FOXTAIL came away well while asked, showed in front early then was taken under a tight hold and relinquished the advantage, stalked outside the leading duo under stout restraint, engaged those leaders while still in hand in the
four path around the turn, had the rider take a peek behind him at the five-sixteenths, took the advantage while the rider took five
more looks to his inside into upper stretch
, was asked while surprised by the presence of the winner to her outside at the three sixteenths then lost the advantage, kept on under a drive while fighting inside that foe in the final furlong and just missed while
well clear for the place
