Title: Unbettable
Post by: Ace on February 07, 2022, 07:31:48 PM
The Great Race Place Santa Anita has become totally unbetable. Yesterday I hit the both Pick 5\'s, early and late, and the late Pick 4.  Total profit was maybe $40. Small fields and low priced favorites coming in like trained seals. Why bother??

I don\'t know. The CAW players probably love it.

Go back to Memorial Day weekend last year.  7 graded stake races, including 3 G1.  A grand total of 38 horses ran in those races, including 2 races with 4 horses each.  Not for me.

You'd think at some point someone would do a study looking at correlation between banning Lasix and field size....

Nah.

Yep, but the thing that is so annoying to me is to hear the shills from SA (Mike Willman in particular) on the radio talking like this is the Nirvana of horse racing.  It\'s not enough that he talks over his guests, but how can he in good conscience tell us every week \"it\'s a great card\" with this crap.  40 million people in SoCal, and no none has horses?
Yes, I realize his job is PR guy for SA.  Tough gig with these fields.  I don\'t bother with it, just bet JV/FP and get your $2.60 winner.
I\'ll stick with OAK and GP this time of year.  And TPA, under-rated.  Love this time of year myself.  Geared up.

My first trip was 30+ years ago.  Big Cap weekend.

Big crowds, vibrant energy, one of the best jockey colonies, great weather, immaculate turf course, the downhill chute, big fields, quality racing. We saw some truly great horses. My buddies and I would count down the days months in advance.

Drinking, gambling, dinners at The Derby and Tokyo Wako. A toke or 2. Morning workouts, mingling with jockeys and trainers. Handicapping after dinner and comparing thoughts. We did it every year. The Sunday evening drive to Burbank Airport with a pit stop at In N Out started the countdown to next year.

We haven\'t been in several years, and its downright depressing to see what SA..........and west coast racing in general has become.  We also spent many weekends at GGF/BM in the 80\'s/90\'s, and we had a blast at those tracks. They were a lot of fun.

I haven\'t wagered since the BC, and I don\'t even have the urge. Never in a million years would I have ever thought I would have so little interest in horse racing.

99% of my wagering dollars go to daily sports betting. I wish it wasn\'t so, but it is.

It isn\'t nearly as fun, but racing hasn\'t given me much of a choice.

Some friends were texting the other day and we were discussing what a $hith0le Pimlico is but what a fantastic weekend we have had up there the 3x we have done Preakness.  One guy said, it isn\'t the facility.  It isn\'t the racing.  It\'s the fact we are all together having fun.  That\'s what racing is more about for me these days.  The social part of it.  I love the handicapping but there are so few spots and almost no cards where every race is competitive, deep, and offers serious value.  Racing is in decline, and it does not appear anyone can turn the on-track product around at this point.

Maybe it\'s the whales, but GP set a handle record for Holy Bull day.

Somebody\'s betting.

CAW is 35% of handle there, and they ran a hundred races that day.

Some of that is true. But it's an infomercial.

I did Byk's show last September and talked about this at length, it's archived on his site.

Thank you for that article.

Jon didn\'t ask the one question I would have asked ...

Do you think it\'s fair that CAW players operate under different rules than other players?

Like any other player I am looking for a horse I think should be 8-1 where the odds are 10-1.

The computer with special access is doing the looking for the CAW player. The rest of us are at a huge disadvantage when it comes to shopping for a price.

Cali racing has been in trouble for the past 3-4 years...now it\'s desperate...

I\'ve been to >107/ Preakness and was in the winner\'s circle for the Black Eye Susan...the last one was 2010...it was a s_ithole then...I can\'t remotely imagine what it is now... Agree with you 100% that it is the people that you go with/meet...It is the socialization!

Im sure I heard the show but forget the content

Why an infomercial, what\'s he selling ?

He's selling the idea that CAW is good for the game, and harmless.
