Title: Pegasus and Dragon
Post by: prist on January 28, 2022, 06:45:16 AM
I don\'t know where the heck I\'ve been, but I never realized how big the Pegasus and Dragon statue was.

According to Wikipedia it\'s the third tallest statue in the United States ... at a cost of $30 million. Wow!

Frank knows how to decorate ... I guess. :-)

What\'s this thing look like in person?

They should have used some of that metal to build seating.

Well, too late for that.

If Frank still has some money left, and is still in the spending mood, maybe he can make a contribution to that Go Fund Me page we\'re going to set up.

We\'ll only bet on your tracks, Frank. Promise. :-)

Ok, on a more serious note ...

What are they going to do with the \"Against All Odds\" statue at Arlington Park?

That thing is not too large. I\'m thinking it would look real nice in your front yard, Jerry. :-)

Oh, OK.

I thought you were working remotely from you palatial estate in the Hamptons. My mistake.

OK. That\'s enough for today. :-)

\"What are they going to do with the \"Against All Odds\" statue at Arlington Park?\"

Phil Collins is taking it to the Alamo.

We\'ve got Frank in one corner, and the Evil Empire (CDI) in the other.

All I can say is thank goodness for the NYRA. Where would we be without you?

Frank no longer runs TSG. Not sure anyone does.

Maybe you should be thanking Resorts World.

With no RW, NYRA tracks would have eventually been administered by one of your
evil empires, or maybe the evils acting as partners.

Dumbest thing ever that statue.
Years ago Gulfstream use to host the Broward county youth fair.
That damn statue is right in the middle of the parking lot we're they use to serve elephant ears.

It\'s incredibly lifelike. True, Pegasus does look a little \'roided out (see the bulging muscles just below his mighty wings), but this is Florida, so, OK.(Little known fact: At the base of the statue is a poem that reads \"Give me your retirees, your CAW teams, your huddled masses who aren\'t too fussy about adhering to stated post times, yearning to get in for free\".)

It\'s so impressive that sometimes I just stand there all day, staring in slack-jawed amazement, and never make it into the track. On those rare days when I am able to pull myself away, Pegasus is very good for - once the last race is over - helping me remember where I parked.

If you like equine statuary, you may want to plan a side trip to nearby Hialeah City, where there is a nice statue of Citation. He\'s only regular horse-sized, but they\'ve also got a nice enough (if a bit dilapidated) OTB, and a racetrack for flamingos with the best sight lines this side of Aqueduct. But the flamingos just hang out in the infield, and never race each other, which I find kind of sad.

Nah. Just taking the advice of Ted \"The Mad Stork\" Hendricks and staying out of pileups (including this latest one with Baffert at the bottom). I guess there\'s something about that stupid statue that just gets my goat. You\'re right. For the price of the dragon alone they could\'ve had a decent grandstand.

I apologize. I didn\'t mean to get your blood pressure up. :-)

Btw, you\'re brilliant.

No worries, mate! I take meds for it and could throw a 120/80 falling out of a plane.
