NYRA announced the restoration of the Wilson chute at Saratoga, to allow races to be run at a mile.
Not a great idea IMHO, as in \'92 they brought it back, and it heavily favored the 1-2-3 post; nearly impossible to win from the outside. It lasted just one season.
Speaking of post bias, the 9F races there have the same issue; I have always wondered why they don\'t run more 1 3/16M races, as it is late summer, and the 2-turn horse can handle the stretch-out, and it gives you a longer run to the turn.
Thoughts??
Those races were not run on the Wilson chute. They started mid way on the clubhouse turn. And it was a dumb idea. The Wilson chute, as I understand it, is a straightaway that will join the main track coming out of the clubhouse turn- an area currently used for parking.
Used for parking by Bill Spillane. He will not be happy.
