Title: Seek Again Stakes
Post by: prist on May 21, 2021, 01:49:14 PM
Anyone looking at the feature race at Belmont on Saturday? If so: Does the line on DECORATED INVADER \"scream\" new top? First time out as a 3yo he runs a 5 and doesn\'t develop at all after that. Now he comes out as a 4yo with another 5.

I have seen similar profiles on horses trained by Clement. GUFO, a couple of weeks ago in the Man O\' War, comes to mind. Favored at 3/2 he got beat a nose.

DECORATED INVADER figures to get bet as well. May even be the favorite if I use the M/L as a guide. I\'m going to move him forward, but I have a hard time taking a short price on a horse like this.

I made FLAVIUS the favorite since 3 out of his last 4 look fast enough to win this. He looks like a 2/1 shot to me.

But the horse I\'m interested in is EPIC DREAMER. Any reason he can\'t win this? Too slow? Well, Casse made some \"equipment\" changes while in Florida and the horse seemed to respond with a nice effort last time out. If he can do that again I think he becomes interesting at 9/1 and up. Anyone else like this horse?

Curious as to why you see this pattern as \"screaming new top.\" I see a horse who was poised to run through his top 4 times and never did. Not a good sign in my opinion. These sheets are all about interpretation which makes handicapping so tough! Good luck!

No, I\'m with you. I don\'t particularly like the line. I wasn\'t clear in my original post.

I was asking if this line is really screaming new top as the M/L suggests. I don\'t think so, but I have trouble with lines like this.

I think it is now or never for Decorated Invader in today\'s race, and after watching his last race - I believe it is now. He sat a stalking trip in the pocket  to the turn in that race, but Alvarado made an ill-advised attempt to move on the rail but was quickly shut-off. He was then caught up in traffic until mid-stretch and by the time he had open air - Delaware was long gone.

He still paired his 3 year-old top with that one, which had the look of a prep race off the lay-off and gets Rosario back. His pattern and his last trip suggest that a better race is in the offing today.

I am against Flavius in this race. Prat gave him a perfect ride last time-out, at the top of the stretch he had the typical look of a Chad runner that would just mow them down - but he flattened out. A lasix-off race - did he bleed? He has the number power with a lot of fast ground loaded numbers - but he is six years old now and again, no lasix today.

I also thought that Delaware got a perfect trip last time when he paired his top - and will take a shot against him as well.

A couple of other horses at a price are interesting - Get Smokin - toss his last at Keeneland as he contested a very fast pace with Somelikithotbrown who won at Pimlico last week. He ran a new top 1st out at Tampa this year and projects to get the lead and save ground today. He could prove tough to run down.

Olympic Runner - I thought he got a curious ride last time, as McCarthy never really asked him for any run until the turn for home. He appears to be a rather difficult horse to ride and gets Johnny V back today.

Good Luck.

No Lasix...............No Bet!

...at least not on the race on it\'s own

But as part of the x-country I\'ll use a few that have run \"winning\" numbers , because I like the rest of the sequence

Get Smokin and Decorated Invader (who figures to run a better race than his last off the layoff) are the only graded winners in here and take turns against one another.  They should make the race.

Is it just me or is Saez riding really awful?  Or does he have a new agent?  What\'s the problem here?

Nice call on Get Smokin

And I forgot to mention: Get Smokin was also going to be a classic case of \'the lone speed.\'  For sure.

Thanks - but I didn\'t cash. The non-effort of DI was rather disappointing - Maggie thought he looked really good in the paddock.
