Title: Rough Week for The Truth?
Post by: richiebee on May 11, 2021, 02:58:44 PM
Rat or raccoon?

Cough medicine or innocent ointment?

Maybe biggest lie of the week is Baffert saying he doesn’t want to cause a distraction by going to Baltimore. Might be the truth is that there are many questions to be asked that BB can not answer honestly.

Questions like

Who is the groom? What’s his name?

Have you fired him or does he still work for you?

Is it the usual course of business for your grooms to piss on hay? That your horses eat? I thought they were valuable?

As a side note if I give you a horse to train and spend that kind of money and hear about grooms pissing in their stalls you’d be pissing through a fucking tube after our talk.

But nobody asks him. Why not? I’m dead serious. He told a ridiculous story and there’s no follow up. I guess it’s not a story anybody is interested in. On to ointment. Journalists apparently taking the day off.

People treat you the way you let them treat you. He gets away with murder, repeatedly. His other quotes reveal lots of self pity, the first cousin of lying.

Bobby wanted to get ahead of the story and with a bit of arrogance thought he could manipulate the truth. He did what anyone who has ever been deposed has been told not to do by their lawyer -- talk to much and lie. He (very) apparently did both. I imagine he was told to get with the vets and find ANYTHING that contains the substance that could cause the positive -- and, they found ointment. I guess they also saw it could be in some pissable substance by a groom.

I am done with this. Could be part of the MTV \"Ridiculousness\" series.

This is going to sound like I\'m defending Bob and I\'m not but can somebody show me where Bob blamed this Derby positive on the peeing groom?

Everyone is running with this narrative however I\'m pretty sure he told Dan Patrick that he once had a positive because a groom pee\'d in some hay and the horse ate it. I don\'t see any reputable news source reporting that Bob said this is what happened with the Derby winner.

This is what I read --
On “The Dan Patrick Show,” Baffert claimed that a groom urinated in the horse’s stall after he had been taking cough medicine and Medina Spirit ate some of the hay. It is currently on the way to Baltimore, although Baffert has yet to be told if Medina Spirit will be allowed to run in this Saturday’s Preakness Stakes. A second drug test usually takes up to three weeks, so a decision may not happen right away.\"

-- I will try to verify via the actual Dan Patrick interview. I, and many others, stand corrected if as you say he was referring to a prior positive (even though that would still be a highly unlikely reason for any positive).

(I didn\'t comment about the \"Cancel Culture\" nonsense that he repeatedly mentioned).

I think you are right. Baffert told Dan Patrick that the hay thing was \"resolved.\"

I get the feeling that this is a case where a bunch of news sources were all feeding off of one item (probably a tweet), an item that did not \"date\" the quotation. Then the news sources made a bad assumption and totally botched the story.

come on. You know better than this. No one in the racing \"media\" ever dare ask such pointed questions to one of their own. I\'m sure behind closed doors over 90% of people involved in the industry just shrug and say \"that\'s baffert.\"

No one dare ever say a bad thing about him in the mainstream landscape. That\'s career suicide. Just look at who the folks on the cable networks have been quoting in their reporting... some nobody on twitter.

I googled it and found he has used the groom pissing excuse thing TWICE. And not in this instance. But I want to ask him about it anyway, and it’s amazing that nobody confronted him about it before. Someone can still ask him about it now.

“So Bob, this time it’s ointment and last time it was groom pee.” And then you ask him questions. About the groom. You know, who what why when how? Like journalists.

Pathetic. Baffert and the people that cover him. At least I have a name for a horse if I ever buy one. My Groom will not be Blushing.

I have had some conversation with some known horsemen in Kentucky. They just say Baffert is talking too much and should just shut up.

The Bullshit detector went off on Bobby some time ago. This latest \"Story Telling\" is incredulous.

Like you said, a liar is easy to spot.  He\'s lying now, he lied to Dan Patrick earlier.  Same substance Gamine was disqualifed from the Oaks over last year and he couldn\'t keep it out of his barn with a Derby Starter?   Seriously? How stupid does he believe we are?  Very stupid apparently.

Too arrogant and too self loathing to do so. Benefit of the doubt is fine and cute in most situations. Not this one. Fool me once, Bobby…

Idk who mentioned but it was spot on. Someone brought up the that one day at Belmont where he took every race on the card. That was it for me.

I was asking the Exact same questions about the Grooms habits.  ODD & not really believable.

Interesting to compare Preakness TV viewership with the historical numbers. Last year was out of sync so shouldn\'t count. Vegas should put up a line. ~20% decrease? ~25% decrease? ~50% decrease? It will be fascinating to see. Controversy generally brings interest. I don\'t think so this year.

It will be a helluva lot higher than if the Derby winner wasn’t running.
