It would be hard to find a better bet than Lucfer\'s Stone in yesterday\'s stake at Bel-- those of you who have not seen it should check out the RBR. I put up a 3 horse box, and the other two scratched-- leaving this filly as 1/2 point slower than one filly who had just jumped to a big new top, and considerably faster than anyone else at the weights, with a solid pattern, good timing, and a buried mark next to her last. The thing is, it\'s obvious from LF\'s post on the Rag board that they liked her too-- and she still paid $20 in a short field, at a circuit where we both sell the most product.
TGJB---
I would also say that there was not much influence with LENTIL or WITH PATIENCE.
All one needed was for LENTIL to pair up and she was only 1 point off of the 1 to 2 shot SHOOT who had not run since early July and SEVEN MOONS who LENTIL beat easily in her last start.
As for WITH PATIENCE, only FAST COOKIE was faster, but not as consistent. I got screwed here as FAST COOKIE was much the best (butcher job by Cornelio) and \'VENTURED split me for a big exacta score.
Good Luck,
Joe B.
I think handicapping this race was complicated by the foreign shippers.
It is not unusal for foreign shippers to be very misbet.
It is not unusual for speed handicappers to be highly suspect of all figure information for foreign shippers and instead evaluate them using other criteria as well.
It is not unusual for foreign shippers that run a big one first out to not reproduce that form.
