Title: Servis / Navarro case
Post by: bluechip21 on November 18, 2020, 03:18:07 AM
I\'m sure there are people much smarter than I am on this board who can provide a more thorough synopsis of the hearings that took place yesterday on the ongoing federal indictments of our famed 30%+ trainers.

A few takeaways:
- Trial is not likely to begin before July.

- SDNY did not rule out further indictments to be rolled out. However to no surprise, a time line was stated. This reminds me of rumors circulating that folks wearing those navy windbreakers with the yellow font circling around the backstretch in Saratoga this past summer. Perhaps mitigating a certain trainers ability to demonstrate the turn of foot we\'ve been accustomed to over the past few years? (just a thought).

- One area that got a rather large LOL from me was this part:
\"The volume of discovery has been incredible,\" said attorney Robert Baum, representing defendant Alexander Chan. \"I\'ve been a federal defender for 25 years in the Southern District and this is the greatest volume of discovery I\'ve seen.\"

Only in horse racing I say!

- This got a \"HUH!\" reaction from me:
\"Adams (SDNY) pointed out that it will not be up to the government to show whether or not the drugs named were effective at manipulating a race outcome.\"

Finally, I\'m still on my search looking for a Navarro and Servis mugshot. Paddock Bar beers on me if anyone can lend a hand in this endeavor.

BlueChip- mug shots in federal cases are uncommon and difficult to obtain as a result of a 6th Circuit Court of Appeals Decision ( Cincinnati)several years ago which held them to be “ humiliating “ and serving no legitimate purpose ( in the context of a news organization seeking same). As for the “trial date”- the Jets have more of a chance of winning the Super bowl than the Navarro and Servis cases have of going trial IMO!
