Title: TGJB- Derby/Oaks pre entries
Post by: big18741 on August 19, 2020, 05:57:04 PM
Any chance of a special this week or next?
In past years you\'ve done one after the preps are finished.

We’ll look at it.

Its more or less two weeks until KY Derby and the lack of Derby buzz is rather
palpable.

Next year when Mattress Mac offers $10MM to any son or daughter of Runhappy who
wins the Kentucky Derby things will be more interesting.

Has Runhappy even had a starter at Del Mar or Saratoga yet? Don\'t worry
Mattress Mac you still have your secret weapon, Maria \"Bad Check\" Borell, waiting in the wings.

One thing I have been pondering. Traditionalists such as myself have long
resisted change to the Triple Crown sequence. This year however, with the
schedule torn asunder, we sit in August with three very good 3YOs; Swiss
Skydiver and Tiz the Law, both ultra competitive grinders who like to win, and
the Brilliant! Gamine running on Hay Oats and W(h)ate(ve)r. Maybe a Triple Crown
which starts with a Ky Derby which is a bit later in May and features more
spacing between the three races would not be the worst thing, and the whole
impact of lasix free 2YO racing will have to be taken into account.

Traditionalists facing tough times, can not see much of a future of \"My Old
Kentucky Home\" being played before the Derby.

I suspect GAMINE may be vulnerable in her next at Churchill. After she orgasmed with the huge negative number on Belmont Day, she returned at Saratoga with a winning, but lesser effort. Having not seen her last number, I’m not sure if she’ll be classic Oâ€"2-X material, but another regression and a wide trip may make it interesting at CD. Just sayin.

It\'s not an 0-2-X.

We\'re working on the Derby/Oaks package. Boy is handicapping those races different this time of the year. Right now the plan is still to do a seminar, and obviously we have to scrap all the studies we used in the past.

John if Gamine\'s next at Cd is the Ky Oaks I will be looking to beat her.

Her Acorn at Belmont was a jaw dropping performance considering the ease with
which she won and the fact that she might have broken a track record if persevered
with, and she wasn\'t running straight. As I have said, if Baffert keeps her
\"short\" this year we could see something special, like maybe Baffert\'s sixth BC
Sprint winner.

Stretching to 9 furlongs, two turns in a big field at a short price, yes I would
be against her at this point in her career.

From what I can find, Runhappy has had two starters each at Saratoga and Del Mar.  Best finish was by Peachy Queen: 3d behind Lucifer\'s Lair at the Spa.
