Title: Last Chance Texaco
Post by: richiebee on March 21, 2020, 05:16:46 AM
Extra points if you know who wrote/ sang Last Chance Texaco without looking at
Wikipedia.

Do not know if Frankie Rainbow will be chiming in, but I\'ll chop up the late P5
Frankie style, although without the emojis.

They were fast and firm on Gentilly Blvd yesterday, with a chance of showers
for this afternoon. More on the weather to come in another thread, wait for it.

R8--Tom Benson Memorial Presented by Dixie Beer.

The race is named for wealthy NO auto dealer/ NO Saints owner, and sponsored
by a cheap beer? OK.

From the rail out you have a BCox and a CBrown, but neither one is striking at
a 40% rate as is young Matt Shirer, who apparently worked as Ken McPeek\'s
assistant for a few years. Note to young Mr. Shirer: 40% trainers are under the
microscope, hope you are doing this the right way.

My selections in this race are the winner and the fourth place finishers in the
AM Stall Memorial 5 weeks ago, Notapradaprice (8/1) who had a bit of trouble in
the Stall and the Stall winner She\'sonthewarpath (6/1) who is an improving 4YO.
Are they fast enough TG wise? Buy the product and tell me.

R9 New Orleans Classic

From the rail out: Lone Sailor has banked over $1M but rarely wins, hard to
imagine he wins twice in a row. We all remember Sonneteer, who I seem to recall
ran second as a maiden in the new Fall Classic, the Kentucky Derby

Fearless for Pletcher is a 725K Ghostzapper who was gelded before he ever
raced. He hung up a big TG in his GP blowout, but one of the discussions we can
have while Racing (and the entire country) are \"paused\" is whether performance
figures get inflated in blowout wins. Might have a pace advantage here, and
more importantly might force one of the two Calhoun contenders, Silver Dust
and/or By My Standards to press, where they might not want to. Both SD and BMS
love the FG.

Others with slim chances are Tenfold, Captivating Moon, Chess Chief and Gun It,
(who should like the extra ground). Will spread like Jif here and of course be
sick to my stomach when no one presses the TAP and he wires?

R10 Muniz Memorial:

Dot Matrix is fast enough for BCox, gets an inside post and runs well for
Geroux. I do not necessarily like horses cutting back from 1-1/2 mile races, but
this NY Bred likes FG and is 8/1. Norm Casse\'s Dontblamerocket loves FG, has some fast
TGs with a lot of wide baked into them. Aquaphobia is a recent Maker claim with
very little stakes experience and is 12/1. Instilled Regard gets used
at the 5/1 ML coming off a Lasix free lifetime best in the Frankasaus Turf
event. Synchrony runs well for Bravo, likes FG, is arguably consistently
fastest, but offers me no value at 3/1 from outside.

R11 FG Oaks:

Not brain surgery here, will take Finite and Bonny South, both BY Munnings OUT
OF Tapit mares.

R12 La. Derby

I\'m running out of gas here. Mailman Money comes in off a pair, 15/1 ML out of
a troubled trip Risen Star. Also 15/1 is Shake Some Action who is fashionably
bred and coming out of two straight wins over track. Portos comes off a TG pair
and was much too far back early in the Withers.

The ticket: 5,8/3,4,5,6,7,8,9/1,2,3,6/4,6/2,6,9 x.50 = $168. If you are on a
budget, or planning to corner the market on your favorite comfort food, I guess
one could go with the 3/5 fave in the Oaks and cut the ticket in half, but I
have learned not to rely on springtime fillies.

Answerâ€" at one point she was Tom Waits’ girlfriend. And she was great on SNL, sang that one, I think. Great song.

Editâ€" didn’t sing it on SNL. But the two she did sing were pretty good too.

She wrote a song for her daughter. What’s it called? Appropriately... “The Horses.”

Nice bit of levity after a surreal week where my car never left the garage and saving on gas is considered the one silver lining.

I\'ll take a stab RBee. I\'m just listing numbers.

R8) Really like the #5, last 4 firm turf efforts have been solid. I\'ll add the #8 with the nice 1st out top at 4yo. Can move forward and be right there. The #1 pounds out competitive races. I\'m hoping Altea doesn\'t knock me out. I\'ll go 1,5,8

R9) #6 ran 3 big ones to end the year, his last 2 haven\'t been as good despite winning. Must use along with #8 with the top in his last and my top pick at a square price.  Using 6,8 here.

R10) If I can get past the first two races I\'m going deep in the later races.
Contentious race. #3 has run 2 solid races over this course. #6 is a Chad Brown, fast but not very consistent. #7 can move forward, gets Lasix, gets weight, will be a big price. Must use. #8 cranks out solid numbers, must use. #9 just ran a new top at 5, the price makes him a play. #12 obviously solid, drawn way outside. At his ML he needs to be better than the rest to use, but for me he\'s just another contender. If he wins I\'m knocked out. I\'ll use 3,6,7,8,9

R11) #6 with the obvious big number and the #4 with the nice pair first out this year and can improve.

R12) #2 paired up a solid fig in last. #3 made quite a jump to a fast figure and a use at the ML 10/1. #8 with a fast dirt number in last will also use. #9 another with a nice pattern and decent figs. #10 is fast and a must use. #13 drawn way outside, but another in the same range as the other contenders. Using 2,3,8,9,10,13.

.50 P4: 1,5,8/6,8/3,6,7,8,9/4,6/2,3,8,9,10,13 = $180

If I get knocked out early I\'ll fire at a P3 or P4. Its last call pour me another.

The #10 Decision Maker ran a nice number on the grass last race. It was quite a jump but don\'t ya have to use this horse??

Live into the last race.

Played the first 3 legs in a P3 that paid exactly $180 paying for the ticket.

Thx.

Yeah those 2 hits certainly come in handy at a time like this. I haven\'t touched the BC winnings.  My wife and I are fine and can weather this economic storm, I feel bad for the millions that are struggling and trying to figure out how to get by. I don\'t see the quarantine ending anytime soon

Thanks for that.

Had never heard of this man, who apparently denied that the Holodomor ever happened.

Of special interest to me because a very distant relative has gone down in history as the “architect” of this mass famine which resulted in the death by starvation of tens of millions Ukrainians during the 1930s.

As to Silver Charm’s absolutely tone deaf comment (a) I do not know what the mathematical basis is for “most of us” and (b) Life may be “good” for some, but as recently as a few months ago, Life was GREAT.
