Does anyone else think he doesn\'t bring much to a race call?
If you need a race caller to make a race exciting, you probably didn\'t bet enough.
Nice...

Ha, love it. He\'s lame IMHO.
I usually hit the mute button before the gates open . fwiw
The guy from Finger Lakes is more engaging.

I\'ve been saying this for a long time. He\'s awful.
Listen to the Beholder vs Songbird epic duel in the BC. Arguably the worst race call of a big race ever. The last 1/8 was brutal to listen to.
There are so many race callers much better, but we\'re stuck with this guy.
Nice line Richiebee, but Durkin made great BC races epic. Collmus makes them forgettable.

Agree P-Dub.
Since Durkin left, the best NYRA race callers (my opinion) have been Travis Stone,
John Imbriale and Larry Collmus, in that order.
Sorry that so many of the younger folks missed experiencing Keeneland, which did
not have a race caller until the mid 1980s. Rather surreal.
Funny, everyone has their own tastes. The guys I can\'t stand are Frank M and Pete A. Frank is the worst ever.
He is a nice guy though. I met him once; I just can\'t stand the way he yells and always puts down the losers, and Pete from Gulfstream is even worse in that way. His emotions are like he bet everything on every horse that wins and you didn\'t.
Wrona was my favorite. I can\'t believe he ever got canned. I liked his weird allusions, \"flat as a lizard drinking\" is my all-time favorite. Trevor D and Larry C, I don\'t mind one bit.
Storyteller vs. (Carnival) Barker
The storyteller wins by an ever widening 31 lengths. Collmus should be
aSHAMed!
For me it’s quite the opposite. He brings too much. The races aren’t so dull that we need is editorializing.
Durkin served up too much icing.
Trevor D is unsurpassed. He knows horse racing.
I\'m in the minority here, but I found Denman just meh. Johnson, then Durkin for me.

Durkin, Johnson...I\'m on board here. Collmus is fine for me, I actually think he tries to imitate Durk...and not in a bad way. I think he\'s fine.
Handicapping now - knocked out of the pik 5 in race 9. Let\'s box trifecta...
2,4,6,7,10....
I always liked the gravely voice of the late Harry Henson, here\'s a call for those too young to have ever heard him. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T9ye_8EKepM
JO Tobin. That takes me back.
Larry\'s far-superior to Anybody Horrible.
Collmus\' bad luck is that he followed The Greatest, Ever.
This thread proves that everyone has different tastes regarding track announcers.
But far superior and Larry Collmus don\'t belong in the same sentence....unless you\'re referring to someone being superior to him.
He is a straight cornball when he tries to get cute with words. But hey, if ya like him good for ya.
Congrats to Michael Wrona for getting the Los Al gig, now that is someone who is superior to Collmus. SA never should have let him go.
That was awful.. Agreed on Collmus being so-so
