Instead of playing Saratoga from the lonely confines of my Manhattan apartment, I’ve decided to get out of town and play it from Las Vegas (hey... where there’s fun, frolic, potential for mischief, a \"dryer\" heat and Wayne Newton). Specifically, I want to play from my room at the Wynn using my iPads. Via my familiar online betting services and NOT at the Wynn’s sports book downstairs through their sleepy, uninterested tellers.
But my Twin Spires guy called me the other day and warned that my hotel may “jam†my internet signal to discourage this. This winter within the confines of Gulfstream Park (that’s XPressBet territory), I had trouble logging into my Twin Spires account. Was the Twin Spires web address purposely being “jammed†there? Not allowing betting venues other than the home team?
So my question is: Will the Wynn really jam me? Jam my online betting addresses? Is that illegal? Has anyone experienced this?
Many people would know more about this than I do, but I don\'t think they can jam your 4G or 5G usage with your iPad. I had no problem this winter at Gulfstream using my iPad with NYRABets and TwinSpires, though there were days when I wish I had. At a local harness track where I went recently for a handicapping contest, they blocked sites on their WiFi hookup, but I got on through the ozone or wherever that 4G signal originates.
Ideally, I’d like to go through the hotel’s free fast Wi-Fi and not have to suck data through the ozone.
At the Gulf they do block any competition web address.
Have to make my phone a hot spot to wager on TVG
Never had an issue wagering from any Hotel in Vegas
It may have something to do with the illegality of ADW in Nevada. I know it seems a stretch but our man about town TempletonPeck on site may know. Face man?
If you are using their WiFi they can absolutely block traffic to specific sites. No insight as to whether the Wynn does that, but wouldn’t be surprised. Best bet would be to use cellular service, or use a vpn tunnel, which would hide your target destination.
Imagine this is too late to be of use, but I would think it is related - my understanding is ADW’s aren’t illegal here, but you must have a physical casino in-state to operate one. As far as using Twin Spires while here, I wouldn’t personally discuss my intention to do that on a public forum.
But, this isn’t legal advice, and I’m not your lawyer.
