...that you can\'t resolve this?
I know guys who still argue Mattingly vs Keith Hernandez.
They will be arguing this in Sperry\'s for 20 years and nobody will change anyone else\'s mind.
Glove or bat?
Good Luck,
Joe B
Like every year, I buy the Courier-Journal early Sunday morning before escaping town. This year the headline reads: HOUSE UPSET
Not bad. But I thought a better headline would have been: THE HOUSE ALWAYS WINS
EDIT: They also should have considered some variation on Max Security/Country House like: KICKED OUT OF THE BIG HOUSE
Hernandez won two World Series. Yanks made the Series the year before Donnie Baseball arrived in NY and the year after he left. An indictment of sorts.
Not a NY baseball guy but just keeping the argument going....
Donnie Baseball.....
84-87 he was the best player in MLB, then his back went south.
A great defensive first baseman but I’ll give the glove nod to Keith.

Frank,
I\'d argue Dwight Gooden was the best player in MLB around that time, at least on the mound. Donnie couldn\'t hit quite as well as Boggs at that time for average but throw in the power numbers and he was likely the best non-pitcher during that span. But no one was as dominant as Doc during that period.
Cut and pasted from his Wikipedia page: In a span of 50 starts from August 11, 1984, to May 6, 1986, Gooden posted a record of 37â€"5 with a 1.38 ERA; he had 412 strikeouts and 90 walks in 406 innings.
And we all know what happened thereafter: Keith started taking Straw Man and Doc out on the town I\'d guess.....

You think this is bad? It\'s nothing compared to the \"Game of Thrones\" discussions I see every Monday morning, and that\'s on a college football message board. Some people want to overturn every episode this year, and none of it has cost them any money.
Richie,
Doc was great in that time frame, no doubt. In 85 he won the Cy Young but was 4th in MVP voting, the other 2 years he was 15th, he only won 20 games once in that time, the pitchers standard of the day.
Boggs was never higher than 4th in MVP voting in that time frame. A great pure hitter with an out of this world on-base % his next best MVP finish was 7th.
Donnie was MVP in 85 & 2nd in 86,5th & 7th the other 2 years. He lost the 85 batting tittle to Boggs hitting 352 with 31 more hits than Boggs and had more doubles than strike outs every year in that span.
Mind boggling.
Between 1985 and 1987, Mattingly hit 96 home runs with just 114 strikeouts.
Also as mind boggling in one decision Jason Servis went from Public Enemy #1 in racing to a Sympathy Figure. This guy did a helluva job with this horse. I don\'t know if the DQ means he wont be tested (was 1st now 17th) but if he is and nothing is found then by current methods and standards he is clean....
Since the best player in baseball is part of this thread, today is the 88th birthday of the best baseplayer ever in any era-“Say hey†-Happy birthday Willie
This discussion is exactly as objective as the other one.
Donnie Baseball and Keith belong among those all-time who-was-better NYC baseball player debates. But I have never seen anyone come close to Hernandez as a first baseman. Back when bunting was still in vogue, Hernandez made it almost impossible to advance a runner. He would field bunts on the third base side. Never saw anything like it.
There are youtube channels making a living bashing every fantasy series on tv , with weekly hate recaps . They give cash in the live chats
Maybe a new income stream for you guys. After every race, let the losers rant about the bad rides and trips. Only $5 per.
Ramirez / Ortiz > Maris / Mantle
Since Babe Ruth was a HOF-caliber PITCHER I think I\'ll go with him.
Ha, With some thought this actually could be a money maker..
