the Big A. and its only November.

ah the good old days

$1 exactas? No question in my mind that they had winter racing in NY BEFORE they had $1 exactas. Also, trifectas (which I recall being introduced as triples and only available on the last race) cost $3, but you could get the price down to $1 if you bought enough combinations in a box or key or wheel.
Also, you had to go to different windows for different bets, so if you had a complicated play, it involved you going to 5 or 6 different windows...and navigating lines. I cannot remember the last time i saw real lines at betting windows.
only 1 DD first 2 races, only carded 8 races, the feature race was always the 7th race, and back in the good old days the hotdogs was a hotdog ,than leaving the Big used to get a nice hot pretzel for a buck ,boy it was delicious no phones ,2$ 5$ windows
and I recall across the board windows

NYC OTB. Guaranteed minimum of 5 cents on every dollar wagered. Went bankrupt.
Imagine the level of incompetence.
Good Luck,
Joe B.
I don\'t recall $3 minimums for Triples.
But I do recall the $20 Exacta windows , where folks used to lurk attentively , assuming the smart money would show up there.
Tip sheets were all over the place, claiming they had 8 winners 3 on top,I think the most popular sheet was Lawton cost a $1.50

Hazel Dukes was in charge of NYC OTB, she had pink furniture in her office , and knew nothing about Horse racing, wonder who appointed her what a joke she was
