Title: And It Begins
Post by: Tavasco on October 25, 2018, 11:12:03 PM
Every year from our own individual perspectives connections make hard to understand decisions and horses run unexpected races. Not necessary overlapping like Battle of Midway or maybe just like that.

The HOF enigma known as D. Wayne Lukas decided to enter Bravazo in the dirt mile this year. I\'d have liked him better in the turf mile. That one has a chance of getting rained off the turf. I hope it does not as that would truly be a shame.

On the positive side, I suppose, that puts Gunnevera into the classic at seductive odds, if estmates are to be believed and program betting doesn\'t beat him down to 9/1. A win c/b delusional but into the verticals @ 30/1 not impossible imo.

At least now I understand why Bravazo attended the pace in his last outing. I guess I\'ll have to make a saver bet as far fetched as it seems. Whose in the dirt mile again?

Oh, Catalina Cruiser, City Of Light and some refugees?

What\'s getting rained off of the turf? The BC Turf Mile? 😳ðŸ¤"
Don\'t think so.

Good Luck,

Dream Tree a Baffert filly headed to the Filly & Mare sprint works :46.4. But eppiglottic entrapment sidelines her. Others work in pedestrian :47. There must be something to working so fast mustn\'t there?

I downloaded the TG pre-entry files but I wanted to know if anyone knows how to access the pre-entries in excel or comma delineated file.

Thanks.

Someone once said, It may have been Baffert, that \"Fast horses work fast\", though the recent trend, except for Baffert, is to work horses more slowly.

By my count at the moment (subject to more defections?), 11 of the 49 horses that won 52 North American WAYI races will not race in the BC (22.4%).

Three horses listed in pre-entries today  (all Cali) announced they won\'t run:  Its Gonna Hurt (suspensory issues but will be fine to run next year), Dream Tree (entrapment, withdrawn from KeeNov sale and will race next year) and Sharp Samuarai with a throat infection.  None career ending......only one of them a WAYI winner.

How many more pre-entries will \"drop out\" for a minor issue before Friday?

I\'m not a horseman so on one hand I\'m no expert on analyzing a workout. But I like to sometimes watch them any way.

At Santa Anita West Coast worked today in a leisurely :47.2 and really does look fit to me. On the 20th Guneverra labored to go 5f 1:00+ bullet @CRC. Now gunny may not be a handsome horse or mover and Sano is arguably an enigma.

The SoCal horses seem to generally work in tandem and some of the workmates impress even though they don\'t have the celebrity so I don\'t recognize them.

Meanwhile the turf horses in NY are cantering around in the cold and wet probably wind in casual :49+. For some reason I thought they might go through some wind sprints but nobody wants to pull a muscle I suppose.

The Bottom Line. from todays observations
Is Collected I don\'t know if he can still go a mile and a quarter but I did see him work 7F in 1:25.60 without breaking a sweat. What a beautiful mover to my eye. Maybe I can get a match bet Collected vs Bravazo in the dirt mile. Baffert sending three to the classic doesn\'t make a lot of sense to me unless he has team tactics in mind, nah!

I believe collected is Classic bound or Clark. No mile

XY Jet for the ever prudent Jorge Navarro is a out of the Sprint due to filling in his knee.

I’m picking up on the scarcasm there but not the underlying implication.  What is the hypothesis on the defections?

Seems you are correct and he is on the outside looking in.

Let\'s not forget he dusted both Arrogate and Accelerate in the 2017 Pacific Classic.

Hunt will not run in the BC.  Another WAYI winner gone.

Trophy Chaser backed out of the Juvenile and will run in ungraded stakes.

There must be a better spot for Lone Sailor. I wish he would find it.
