Title: Assessment of the Keeneland Jockey Colony
Post by: Blueskies on October 11, 2018, 02:21:41 PM
How do you guys handicap the Keeneland Jockey group?  Any rising stars to check?  Best and the worst?  What value do you attribute to the jockey when capping the races?

I’ll just say that Tyler Gaffalione can really ride. Certainly a rising star. See his win today on the turf at Kee. [I’ve never liked his agent though.]

Tyler can ride, that is for sure. Can’t say I’m keyed into many others. I’ll say this, Joel at BC should get some good mounts. Still working on my data collection/ analysis on Churchill for the BC. ... willing to share if anyone is interested. It’s pretty in depth.

I never consider jockey or trainer to be separate handicapping factors.
When handicapping, if there has been no trainer and/or jockey change from a horses previous races, I have already taken them into consideration when I handicap the horse\'e performance. Of course we all know how significant a trainer change can be. As for a jockey change, this can also be significant though more an indicator of trainer intention than anything else. In these cases it would be wise to see how these horses perform when the trainer rides this jockey. It might also be useful to see which jockeys are hot at a meet to recognize when the trainer is making what he believes to be a positive rider change and is going for it.

I scrapped my jockey idea for something else. Shoot me a DM. If I get it to a point where it’s worth sharing I will, but I’m concerned sharing a product that may hurt people or not provide any substance to someone. As I mentioned in another post, I’m worried about paralysis by analysis.
