Title: Opening Day At Saratoga thoughts
Post by: toppled on July 17, 2018, 09:28:02 PM
I\'ve been working on the card for the last 5 hours.  Hopefully, not in vain.
My best plays are in the 4th, 5th, 7th, and 8th (best bet)

1st-Tepid call that Amoss improves #7 Hardly a Secret further 2nd off the claim.  Amoss sports a very good win % 2nd off the claim.  Returned to his top 1st off the claim.

2nd-I don\'t have much of a feel for this one, can\'t really use sheets. Using 1,4 &7 in exotics.

3rd-2 horse race #6 Monteleone and #4 Sicilia Mike.  Slight edge to the lightly raced horse but using both in exotics.

4th-The only horse I\'m using is the probable favorite #6 Azzedine, the fastest horse in the race.

5th-Another 2yo maiden with a lot of firsters.  I\'m going to take a shot with #7 Princess Trina because she\'ll probably be a better price than those with the more high profile trainers. Nicks does very well with 2yo FTS at Saratoga.

6th-I don\'t have much of a feel for this one.  Shug\'s #1 Dancing All ran pretty fast last year but needs to be ready off a year\'s layoff.  If she\'s not ready #10 Palladine Bridge can win this.

7th-#12 Giant Zinger came off a 7 month layoff and broke her maiden when she might not have been fully cranked up.  Now she moves up in class but she has a back 2YO # that with normal 2 to 3 improvement can trounce this field. Sire Giant\'s Causeway\'s TGI is 3.5 points faster from 2 to 3.  Main fear is Chad\'s #2 Sweet August Lady.

8th: PLAY OF THE DAY #3 CONGRATS GAL-she\'s tied for top # on a fast track (only 1 horse ran faster and that was on a wet track) when she jogged at Laurel by 6.25 lengths and has been working out like a wild horse since her debut.  Her last work in 58.8 was 1.20 seconds faster than the next fastest worker at 5f that day & she\'s a 2YO filly.  A single in all horizontals, and a good win bet. Verticals will be tough since I\'ve got too many horses who can hit the board.

9th: I\'m playing #5 Goodthingstaketime & #3 Daddy is a Legend in horizontals.

10th: Each horse has something wrong with it, but my top 3 are#12 Prognostication, #8 Country Court & #11 Hello Holiday.

R8:  I also landed on Congrats Gal when I watched all the replays from that race last evening.  She might not end up being the price we would expect.  Norm Casse\'s horse and TAP\'s horse both had trips in their first start worth watching if you haven\'t already.

On another note, Lady Aurelia was retired today.  She was never really as good in \"merika as in UK, no?  And Wesley Ward just hasn\'t been very good in 2yo graded stakes in the US it seems.  Wesley didn\'t have one of his 63 2yo winners from the Keen, PID, Bel meets this year ready to go for this race on opening day?  Hmmmm.......How could this be??????

As for my assertion he isn\'t great it seems in 2yo graded stakes:

Last 3 years, 1 for 20.  The one winner was 3-5.  Fascinating Wesley didn\'t have one ready to go here......

Appears to me to be another example of good preparation. Thanks

Tepid eh? Good description. Not the easiest race in my view. Trainer Barrera just claimed 9 y/o #4 Turco Bravo. I can not help thinking it is not a long term plan. On the other hand his record with after a claim @ 7% is poor so probably nothing to it.

But @ m/l 12/1 and a proven ability to race 1+1/8 and more he looks to have value with Rosario picking up the pieces behind your choice.
