BloodHorse reports Audible will not be entered in Belmont Stakes.

I never thought an Into Mischief colt out of a Gilded Time mare would make 1 1/8 miles, let alone get 1 1/4 miles and still closing at the end. As far as I am concerned, he keeps outrunning his pedigree. Maybe the 1 1/2 miles catches up with him or maybe, just maybe, it is better to own a Triple Crown winner than two horses that collectively have won all three races...

"Elliott Walden reported to me this morning that Audible has a gluteal muscle strain that will take him out of training for five days," Wolf wrote. "This is not a major injury, but both Todd and Elliott have decided to freshen the horse up and bring him back for some of the bigger summer stakes races."

In other words, to Audible,it\'s a pain in the ass having a horse with the same ownership going for the Triple Crown.

Clever, butt from Bloodhorse:

\"Vino Rosso and Noble Indy both breezed exceptionally well,\" Pletcher said. \"It was a little quicker than we wanted, but they both seemed to do it well in hand, very comfortable, galloped out strongly. After talking to everybody, I think both of them are in the mix for the Belmont now.

\"I was surprised watching it at how fast they were going because they didn\'t look like they were going that fast. Javier on Noble Indy and Johnny on Vino Rosso were sitting motionless, and I cautioned them on the radio a couple times, \'Easy guys, easy, you\'re going a little quick.\' You could see they were sitting still, but if there was a right kind of fast work, it was done easily and it didn\'t seem to stress the horses.\"

Both colts are exiting starts in the Kentucky Derby, where Vino Rosso was ninth and Noble Indy 17th. Noble Indy is co-owned by WinStar Farm.

\"WinStar is fully on board with running (Noble Indy) if the horse continues to do well,\" Pletcher said. \"The breeze this morning was, I think, as good as I\'ve seen him breeze.\"

If you guys think this has anything to do with distance limitations or even a gluteal strain, (if that\'s even true), you\'re crazy. Pletcher wants to run Audible but the owners arent allowing it, would be my guess.

Noble Indy is Winstar and Repole.  Audible is Winstar and 3 others (identical ownership to Justify).

Correct.....but two points a) China Horse Club not involved with Noble Indy and more importantly b) there is a big difference in running the clear second choice in the race with a big chance and deciding to run a horse who goes off 15/1, no? Almost seems like Noble Indy is the consolation prize from Winstar to Pletcher....cant run Audible, but we will let you run Noble Indy, and now no one will think we are holding anyone back to favor Justify. Not buying it Elliot! Weak!

IMO, Noble Indy lacks the conditioning to go 1 1/2 at this point. Off 6 weeks before the Derby, the colt basically got zilch out of the race. Of course there will be the inevitable comparisons to Palice Malice should NI end up entering.

Toss.

Good Luck,
Joe B.

At least with NI entered there will be some \"pace pressure\" for Justify.  It was looking like he would be on the front end completely uncontested.  Not trying to draw any comparisons between Audible/NI or Justify/NI, strictly saying that Justify will have company up front for the first 1 1/8 or so (likely hangs in there a bit longer).

Someone to go at him early and the rest of the field in the later stages. I for one hope NI makes it to the gate honestly.  If nothing else he keeps Justify from relaxing alone up front, which is a big deal in this spot. (IMO)

Noble Indy likely helps Pletcher\'s other horse Vino Rosso.

I guess that\'s a very small bone Winstar threw Pletcher for screwing him with Destin two years ago(had to run Gettysburg as a rabbit for Creator) and maybe this year with Audible getting benched.

It could also give Justify a target to follow around the track.

NI\'s mom was a sprinter who completely collapsed the one time she went two turns.
NI wasn\'t exactly running on in the LA Derby, more a case of MBJ hanging and Lone Sailor staggering late.

Since the LD went about two seconds faster for the half, compared to what they typically go in the Belmont, I\'m not sure that how he finished up there tells us  much about what he will be doing at the end of the 12F.

Justify doesn\'t need the lead.

Totally agree, but I still feel better about another front running type signed on for the race.  Looking at the probable list it seemed like he was most likely going to be alone up there.

I know a lot of people feel Justify is better with a target to run at, which is probably true, but in this spot I\'ll take any scenario that includes him having company the whole way around the track as opposed to the alternative.
