Depending on where you are staying,

For the \'Saratoga\' experience, try Compton\'s for breakfast or take in the trackside offering. Track opens at around 7am and the food isn\'t bad. You can even watch the workouts from the Governor\'s box while you sort through your TG sheets.

You can park your car on the side streets or someone\'s lawn. $3 to $10 depending upon how close you need to be.

Meander over to Siro\'s for a seminar or take in the Museum. Great exhibits and right across the street from the track.

After the races, passionate fans are back at Siro\'s accompanied by their shoulda woulda coulda\'s.

At the bottom of Caroline Street, there is a fine restaurant Sperry\'s. If you have access to a car and are a red meat maniac...try the Cliff House....9w South to the Red Tomato ...make a left and it is on the left before you drive into Saratoga Lake. Sports Bar theme, they don\'t raise their prices in season and the portions are generous. No reservations so you wait at the bar. Chaz is usually at the bar. Mention you know Bob from Pennsylvania who been coming since Java Gold won the Travers and he\'ll know.

Have a great time. It\'s horseracing heaven.

Bob

Come prepared- bring your umbrella, raincoat and rubbers (for your feet). Rain is expected tonight, Tuesday and Wednesday. At this point even if there\'s not as much rain as is expected It\'s almost a guarantee the 3 turf races will come off and be run on the main track going 1 1/8 miles-so handicap accordingly and best of luck.

All the above, and more. I\'ll be up opening weekend, and I\'ll buy the annual round of drinks at the back bar outside at Siro\'s Friday night (time depends on what race they make the stake at DMR-- we have a filly in that race), anyone with a Fri or Sat set of TG is eligible. Just for the hell of it I\'ll open it up to those with Rag sets as well, so you guys can see my horns and tail.

For me it\'s Sperry\'s and Siro\'s, and that place outside town (drawing a blank on the name) that specializes in meat, looks like a diner but is a high end restaurant.

Great, great town, great time. I only get to go up a few days at a time (3 trips this year), would love to be there the whole meet. It does need a good late night joint other than Siro\'s that isn\'t crazy crowded, preferably with Blues.

Somebody really should make a movie about that town.

>preferably with Blues.<

Don\'t tell me you are a blues fan?

If so, we have a lot to talk about. I\'m a huge blues fan and a mediocre (but getting better) blues guitarist.

There\'s definitely a Jazz Bar on one of the side streets. I hear it\'s good, not sure if it\'s on Phila or the next one over.

I think you probably mean 9 maple(next to what was the metro). Have heard it is ok.  How about the Saratoga experience for under $25.(not including the track or drinking) Breakfast at the Horseshoe, lunch-a sub from peppers and dinner-a couple chiken barbecue slices from D\'andreas pizza.

Get a hold of a book called \"Jazz and Blues Lover\'s Guide To The U.S.\". My girlfriend wrote it.

If anyone likes racing crime novels (I do), there\'s a nice set of ten all set in Saratoga by Stephen Dobyns.

Jerry, make sure you buy Harvey Pack a drink too. He\'ll be at Siro\'s every day according to what I read in the Racing Form. HP

Thanks everyone.  Siro\'s sounds like the place.  Upper Nile was right about the weather, they are calling for rain all day.  I\'m more a fan of the Turf than the Mud and will probably wait until Saturday.  Thanks again and good luck everyone.

The old diner is Chez Sophie on Rt. 9.  Also, a new restaurant opened over the winter called Tiznow; quite good bistro fare

Despite being dismissive, close minded, and a general pain-in-the-butt, Andy (Sperling, not Beyer) is a pretty good guy, and extremely entertaining-- and some of his best stuff can\'t be used here or on TV. He\'s great on TV-- but what he really should be doing is hosting a talk radio racing show, with call-ins. God only knows how nasty and funny he would be... next to \"curmudgeon\" in the dictionary, you\'ll find Andy\'s picture.

I know him for many, many years. One of the worst opinions around.
