One of my favorite racing days is what is now JRSteaks day at Turfway. I love diving into the card, using the TGIs for poly sire data along with TG #s and DRF PPs. I\'ve had some big days & some bad ones-it\'s the only day I play Turfway all year. At the risk of embarrassing myself, this is what I like tomorrow. I\'m stopping after the JR and won\'t play the final 2.
1st: #5 Normandy Crossing needs to hold his form for at least this race. He\'s faster than these and loves this track. At his low price I\'ve included him because I\'m using him as a single in multi-race wagers.
2nd: #6 Silky gold is my play. Notice on the trainer\'s 1st/2nd time starters Humphries\' lone win on a FTS occurred on what was Spiral day last year. History repeating itself. Main threat is #7 He Be Keener who has a nice workout pattern when you go off the sheets and include PP data. I also like Silky Gold\'s 4f work on 2/13.
3rd: #6 Get Tough ran an OK number 1st out in a sprint and when you look at the TG trainer data you\'ll see Drury\'s best ROI is going sprint to route. Note the sire\'s TGI is 1.5 points faster 1M & over. Although it\'s not sheet related, this horse did one of my favorite moves in his last race-he passed the entire field galloping out after the race. Main threat is #10 Courage and Honor whose trainer McPeek has good TP %s and good sprint to route %s.
4th-Pass. I\'ll be hitting the all button in P3s.
5th #10 She\'s Da Nuts became a new horse when she changed trainers, added lasix, and moved to Turfway\'s poly surface. She\'s faster than any of the horses who have raced & I don\'t see any firsters to fear. Won\'t get anywhere near the 8/1 ML.
6th passing.
7th-In a wide open race, I\'m going with #7 Alternate Route who is a full to 3 time SW Enstone who won on synthetics. Saving with 1,9,& 11.
8th-The only time Royal Son lost in 4 starts at TP, I bet him in the Spiral. Still his poly #s are much faster than the others in this field and as long as one of the 1st time poly horses doesn\'t jump up, he should win his 3rd straight. Too low a price to bet, but I\'m using him as a single in multi race bets.
9th-If #10 Bet She Wins runs anywhere near her synthetic # at AP last year, they\'ll all be chasing her. My only fear is #1 Classy Music since McPeek has won this race twice.
10th- In a tough renewal of the Spiral, now the JRSteaks, I\'m going with the fastest horse, #7 Hazit, who should do as well or better on poly. Main fears are 8,9,11 &3.

First of all good luck and thanks for posting. Just adding a couple of my thoughts.

Yep - I\'m thinking vertical to include #\'s 7 & 8

I hope you get the 10/1.I like your angle and think I\'ll follow you

He ran pretty fast early in his 1st start especially considering his slow start. Curious.

#11 Sweet Ella seems a fair price 10/1.

The Two California Horse from the El Camino Real Derby sure went fast early @ GG on Feb 17. I think their presence upsets the many plodders but Hazit & Pony Up should be able to contend.
great call on the 3rd at TP, Congrats hope you crushed it
philywheel
I did. Had a nice win bet ($15.80) and hit the exacta ($121.80) and I also hit on a saver 2-3 DD which paid a generous $54.40. I was very disappointed when my horse scratched in the 5th & doubled up the win bet on this race when this race became my best bet.
keep up the good work ,nice call in the 7th
IM IMPRESSED!!!!
Another nice call on Alternative Route - looked like they might catch him at the head of the stretch but he was game. _ Sweet!
Thanks. All I need now is the favorite to win the 9th for a $37.40 DD that I crushed. I was nowhere near in the 8th exacta so the DQ didn\'t matter to me, but 10 did a nice job of running interference for me.
Thanks. This really is one of my favorite racing days because Turfway always has their best card of the year on Spiral/JRSteaks day.
4 had a rough trip, dont think it mattered tho
Nice job on that card!
Great job, toppled! Any opinions on any of today\'s cards?
Thanks.
Thanks. I looked at the entries & didn\'t see much. My strength is races for young horses. The mix of maiden races & 3 YO stakes on what is now JRSteaks day fits my style perfectly.
This is how much I love that day at Turfway. Years ago, before I would access my TG sheets on the internet, I went to Long Island to visit my parents\' graves. I was coming back on a Friday the day before the big day at Turfway. On the way back upstate, I stopped at the Meadowlands to try to get the DRF, since they sell multiple racing forms & I couldn\'t get one with Turfway\'s card on LI. Long story short, I couldn\'t get the DRF PPs & had to buy a single DRF card for Turfway after I got home. The sheet story is even better. They had the Turfway TG sheets, but they were in some office in the basement or somewhere a level under where the simulcast area is. I went down to the office, got the Turfway sheets & headed home. I ended up having a big day at Turfway that Saturday, making all the extra effort worth it.
Great story! I must admit, I\'m also a bit of an inveterate horse player myself. I have been to that same receiving office at the Meadowlands to get the next day\'s sheets back before the internet!
Also, I was at Turfway in \'91 to watch Hansel win the Beam. I was in the Jim Beam hospitality tent at the top of the stretch, and will never forget Bailey powering him to the lead as they rolled into the stretch.
Now, everything is online: the information, the betting, the watching the race. Saratoga 2015 was the last time I attended a live race. Sad.
