A classic article by our own magicnight about one of the worlds most beautiful places.
I was there on getaway day 1986 the last real race meet they hosted that drew the top outfits during the traditional Florida winter twin 50 day meets with Gulfstream. A horse named Bolshoi Boy won the feature for Howie Tesher. They ran some sembelence of B meets on and off to 2001 but it was never the same.
If you have never seen the flock of flamingo’s released into the sky, you missed something.

I heard someone stole the Citation statue.
\"If you have never seen the flock of flamingo’s released into the sky, you missed something. \"
True That.

Frank. I had very similar feelings when reading about Brunetti\'s passing. I skipped many classes and made the trek from Coral Gables searching for new shortcuts to \" the most beautiful oval of them all\" The Flamingo Terrace and back bar overlooking the walking ring. The Fountains, fish ponds, flamingos, trolleys, and of course the palm lined driveways and wraparound staircases going up at the entrance. I\'ll be in Hallandale Beach next week and thought of going to the 3rd floor memorial but I decided I\'d rather remember the past than be disappointed by reality. I\'m sure we must have been in line together at some point as I was there most days from 77-84 and all of them in 83. In a frigid early 80s AFC Championship Game, The Ax commented on the weather saying \" That\'s why they made Hialeah\" Good Luck and be well!
Dammit, you all are doing your best to get me to put a tear in my beer. Sadly, Hialeah is part of old Miami that, like a lot in Miami, is drifting away - left to the occasional pop reference in the Miami Vice intro or a passing scene in Godfather part II. I cashed a derby ticket at Hialeah on Monarchos in 2001, when the writing was on the wall. Walking out I recall asking my friend, \"Where did they get all this coral rock?\" Told myself I\'d never go back unless they raced thoroughbreds, which means I\'ll probably never get back.
But hey, I get nostalgic for the free 3 Dog Night concerts at the old GP. I live about a mile from Tropical Park. The stables are still there . . . .
Any chance you went to Emerson Elementary? I would walk over to Tropical Park after school to watch races from outside the fence near the chute on the grandstand side. Early 1960s!
