Trivia Question (see if you can answer without Googling): Who was the post-time favorite for Alysheba\'s Derby?
I think that Demon\'s Begone at 2/1 - bled that day, pulled up and finished last.
ding ding ding--the first of a couple Loblolly entries who failed to finish TC races as the favorite
Winning Colors. Didn\'t see that.
I believe that was back in the day when very few horses used Lasix and it was still illegal in NY. Wasn\'t Alysheba given a hard time initially as he raced with Lasix and most of the field did not.
If I remember correctly Demon\'s Begone was never the same - didn\'t he fail in some low level Derby after that as well?
I\'m not sure he ever won again, though I do remember he raced at 4. I know he ended up standing in Washington.
You\'re absolutely right about the Lasix knock against Alysheba.
He only received Lasix as a 3Yr old after throat surgery. He raced without it as a 4 yr old in 1988 and won a couple of races........

A quick search revealed Demon\'s Begone was a half brother to Pine Bluff (Preakness winner) and Angel Fever, the dam of Fusaichi Pegasus (Derby winner). Quite the family!!
No clue about Loblolly beyond an owner named John Ed Anthony. More that I should know? PM me if necessary.
Some added detail.

Probably an interesting story how an Arkansas outfit rose to the top echelon of Thoroughbred racing.
Wasn\'t following racing in those days, but - on account of a weekly basketball game TGJB and I both played in - I do remember that Alysheba was the TG play in that Derby.
How ABC happened to have an Iso on the 8-1 winner is another 30-year-old story.

That story being they had one camera left and someone asked me who to put it on. They got a tight shot on Alysheba almost going down and going on to win, the guy got an Emmy, and I got no credit.
Yup. That\'s how I remember it.
The Iso really gets the stumble in a very impactful way. Sorry, don\'t post for ages and now you can\'t shut me up. Happy New Year all.
And thanks to Paul for getting my old handle back. Thought it was lost to a defunct email account.
