Title: On a cold December Saturday
Post by: FrankD. on December 16, 2017, 07:20:29 AM
Let’s warm up playing a pretty good Gulfstream card.......

Holiday shopping, a couple good football games on later but until then why not take a couple shots against some suspect chalks. TAP runners excluded as we might as well congratulate him on his 16th consecutive training tittle here. Striking at north of 40% with new tops abound and the beat goes on and on.......

Late Pick 4:

The My Charmer: No reason to bet On Leave here at 4/5, his consistent top is well within reach of a few. Hard to fathom that Irad is 1/24 riding for Shug and On Leave has not been in Florida that long.
April Gaze is a total reach from the rail at a juicy price, some big dirt numbers, not really bred for the lawn but High Cotton’s are only 1 point slower on green than brown per TG sire index.
Stormy Victoria & Defiant Honor are the ones we like. A bit of concern with Johnny V. from the 9 hole starting on the turn but price and a pending forward move make the reward worth the risk.

The Harlan’s Holiday: 2nd & 3rd choice’s Fear The Cowboy  and Mr Jordan are the ones I’m against. Big Penn #, awkward starts and wide trips aren’t the ticket here. JJ can’t even help this Cowboy too much. Mr J is 0 for 8 here.
Richard the Great likes the trip here, Paco (AKA bobble head) is no secret where he’s going from the rail.Conquest Big E & Page McKinney in her 53rd dance have a punchers chance at prices. Destin is TAP say no more.

The Tropical Turf: Tower of Texas is our key and we will press this one until we get juice 😎. Western Reserve will take them around and is dangerous but will not be alone, Blacktype gets a saver nod as well.

MSW: A pair of Pletcher’s not crazy about Boru turf and not bet at all in his debut. Hynford not sharp and 1st Turf one of few weak TAP stats. Watch them run 1,2 and beat me, tossing both.....

The 2,3,& 4 are all creeping forward, reasonably bred for the green and prices. None of the 3 will knock me out of a 4 zero ticket.
1st Lasix for Rocky Strange, Zayas/Gold pretty good together and working well gives him a press. I’ll dribble in 2 more as savers, Prompt has been in the sun for awhile and Mott has won with a few firsters of late, not his MO. Romans better half is part owner of Claret Jug and DR likes to pay the seasons rent early.....

Good luck and stay warm in the northeast,

Frank D.

First of all, I thank you for posting. I didn\'t play today, but your post moved me to watch the four races. My reflections are those of a fan not a bettor. A welcome break from looking in on the immoral, disasterous, devisive, violent and incompetent real? world. Horse racing (without chips) is practially a comedy.

I suppose the betting public was focused on the \"last outing was @ the BC\" angle. Like you I thought the 4/5 price was short. As for April Gaze how many times have I liked dirt numbers go to the grass and watched them drop an anchor at the head of the stretch. April Gaze proved playable. Gianni\'s Dream surprised me. One I would have thrown out.

If I read your words correctly, hope I didn\'t. Oh well. Both Mr. Jordon and Fear The Cowboy have turned out to be surprisingly (to me) durable and useful runners. Although at first glance I thought each was a bounce prospect Sat.? In hindsight half the field looks like the need some rest before next year\'s campaign.

A competitve and close race. Maybe a riders race. IMO, Tower of Texas a bet at the price had a not great trip. The Lonthro colt would have been my pick and he got a winning ride. C. Clement may never call on Rosario again as Blacktype looked a deserving favorite in the lane. But he\'d already lost the race.

Most of all I loved this the last race. I\'m reminded of days past when the bettors went dashing back to the window when a horse acted up going into the gate. It seemed like a full five minutes to get get CeeVee into the starting gate. It really was comical and I would have bet he wasn\'t going in and would be scratched. The GP crew were relentless. Then out like a shot and instead of wilting late he ran off @ 10/1. I\'m hoping he got you out.
