Title: Turf Sprints at Aqueduct
Post by: SoCalMan2 on October 23, 2017, 07:10:07 AM
I notice that Aqueduct has added two Turf Sprint Stakes races for late November.

The races are listed as being 6 furlongs on the turf.  Has anybody here ever seen a 6 furlong turf race at Aqueduct?  Given that the course is only 7 furlongs around, it seems to me it will be hard to avoid the race either starting or ending on a turn.  Am I missing anything?

I tried to find Aqueduct Track Records, but I couldn\'t find any, so I do not even know if Turf Sprints have ever been run at Aqueduct (I cannot remember any, but my memory may be faulty).

I did find track records on Equibase and according to them, the shortest distance on the turf with a track record is a flat mile.

Hadn\'t you heard? The inner dirt track at Aqueduct has been converted to a second turf course. The new turf course is one mile in circumference, same as the old inner track.

I missed that news. Apologies for clearly out of date post.

The main (and now only) dirt track has been renovated to allow winter racing.

No worries mate. Interesting times ahead regarding Aqueduct racing and how the new surfaces play.

Notice included on the Overnights sheet for this Thursday:
\"Attention Trainers: The new turf course at Aqueduct will allow us to run turf sprints at this upcoming meet, but we are restricted to one per day. Due to this restriction there will be NO turf sprint claiming races written at the upcoming Aqueduct meet.\"
