Post by: johnnym on August 25, 2017, 07:26:48 AM
Can someone explain the difference to me between a Grand Slam wager being offered tomorrow at Saratoga races 9-12 and a regular ol pick 4

Grand slam you need to pick a horse in the money in the first 3 legs and the winner in the last leg.

Hmmmm, first thought takes away a lot of the value.
Second thought what is the purpose or reasoning behind this type of wager?

Got me, its kind of dopey.

What happened to the omni bet which is a lot more interesting for day to day play

If you can get a couple of favorites out of the money in the 1st 3 legs , than a 2-1 Shot can pay alot more than 2-1,  it could be a fun bet , look atsome of the payouts

Of course it pays more than 2-1 if longshots dominate the other races.

doesn\'t necessarily mean getting 5-1 on the 2-1 shot is value , you still have to have the right horses

I don\'t look at the bet at all, so maybe there\'s some value in there I don\'t know about.

There must be a reason why the Grand Slam has - outside of the two quinella pools - the lowest handle of any bet on the NYRA menu ($45K yesterday).

Don\'t know what happened with the Omni other than that it died in infancy.
