Title: Gunny
Post by: Silver Charm on April 25, 2017, 07:04:30 AM
Resting comfortably in Barn 41 after the ship. Per the transport handler (who is a former trainer and current daily watchman) he is doing really really good. If he can navigate the 20 horse stampede he can win!![/

Now this one has the kind of line that Sheet players hate this time of year. Major X off a Big Top. But that Top alone is lot faster than about all of the others. Solid foundation building up and perhaps it doesn\'t kill him like it has to others who went LOW in Florida in February.

He was not 100% for the Fla Derby. That isn\'t Fake News. Most horsemen would have been cautious and scratched. Calder guys are not most horsemen. Has a Hall of Fame inducted pilot on board to navigate the trip without a Derby win on his vast resume. Must use underneath in the exotics with a via shot to win if there is pace meltdown. IE-Monarchos, Giacomo......

Gunny will need pace to run at. Who\'s the early pace? State of Honor? Irap? Battalion Runner (if he runs)? Battle of Midway?

Reminds me of Itsmyluckyday.

Not seeing the comparison....Itsmyluckyday had already run two negative #s that were good enough to win and was coming off a much lighter regression in his last. Gunny has only run one race good enough to win this and is coming a much larger bounce. Not to mention the difference in running styles. Gunny sort of reminds me of a faster version of Creative Cause, sheet wise.

Creative Cause was one of Rosario\'s typical derby rides 3w5w

Sometimes he can get away with it like on Orb another 3w5w on much the best but something to consider if you like Practical Joke.

Rosario Derby mounts:

Shagaf 4w DNF
Frosted 3w5w
Arod 3w 2w(shocker)
Orb 3w5w
CCause 3w5w
B Speed 3w5w from the 2 hole
MMusic 3w4w

Back to Gunny...

In a 20 horse field it\'s more difficult to save ground though.

I wish he was on Revolutionary when Orb won. Was alive in the double with Princess of Sylmar. Wide was the way to go that day.

Borel had Revolutionary on the rail (of course) despite the quick-sand warnings.

The Lukas horse was also on the inside and won the Preakness 2 weeks later.

BTW: Orb never won another race.

Good Luck,
Joe B.
