Post by: wymanda on June 04, 2004, 12:24:18 AM
Can anyone tell me what the Timeform ratings were for the following horses which are coming to Western Australia as stallions this year:

Not impressive at all. I\'m sure both are being given a chance because of their very strong pedigrees.

I love the pedigree of Mosayter but I understand that he had major soundness problems when racing in the U.S.A. Given the fact that he only won two races at Thirsk in northern Yorkshire I am very doubtful of his credentials and think that his fee of $4,400 AUD ($3040 US) is over the top when our average fee is around $5500 for a stakes winning horse.

Western Verse has been at stud in India and will be shuttling to Western Australia.

Can anyone tell me anything about Mosayter\'s performance in the USA, who trained him and why he didn\'t do more?

Mosayter raced five times in NA, the last four trained by Dan Peitz. He sprinted and routed on the grass and was also tried at seven furlongs on the main track. He was not competitive in any race.

There were no soundness issues at all. Mosayter is a big, beautiful horse that trained like a champion in the morning. Unlike most sons of Storm Cat, Mosayter was a very kind easy horse to work with when he was in his stall. Unfortunately, the afternoons were a nightmare. He would get very nervous and wash out badly when led over on race day. He was treated in order to try and calm him but nothing ever worked. Finally,  owner Shadwell Farm and Peitz gave up on him as a race horse.

I assume you are considering sending a mare to Mosayter. Please let me know what you decide and what you think of him if you get to see him.

Frank,
Thanks for the information on Mosayter. Whilst I do have several mares of my own I am primarily involved in pedigree matching. This is why I am interested in collating as much information as I can on Mosayter and other new stallions which are coming to Western Australia. These include

1. Western Verse (shuttling from India)
2. Mosayter
3. Numerous Times
4. Zentsov Street

etc.

Any information you have on these horses would be much appreciated.

I should be able to get you some information about Numerous Times. He became a hero here at Woodbine, my local track, when he won the G1 Atto Mile as a 4YO after having battled major health problems his whole life. He was trained by Sid Attard and ridden by Patrick Husbands, both leading local connections. At the time, he was still undefeated. The Atto Mile was his sixth straight win to begin his career. He never won another race. He was scratched on the morning of the Breeders Cup after injuring himself in his stall.

If I can get details of his problems I will post them here.
