Title: Breeders Cup
Post by: johnnym on February 13, 2017, 07:36:46 AM
Question giving serious thought of going to this years Breeders Cup,a 50 bday gift to myself.
Was thinking of staying in the LaJolla area as prices are much cheaper.
Any suggestions for a first timer going out to this area would be much appreciated. Delmar area is sold out or crazy expensive.
Yes I know it\'s early but I\'m a planner.
Please PM me.
TY
John

You can look at the Carlsbad area as well. La Jolla is about 20 minutes south from Del Mar and close to San Diego. Carlsbad is about 20 minutes north from Del Mar and has train service that stops in Solana Beach (town just north of Del Mar). There is also service from San Diego to Solana Beach. The track offers free double-decker bus service to the track from there -- 10 minute ride. Smart to begin your hunt early.

Or stay in Oceanside, and take that train to Solana Beach (probably less than one hour)and like Strike says, the shuttle bus from the Solana Beach train station to the track is fast and free. You could even stay further north in San Clemente, just a bit longer train ride.  (book the train early too, get a reserved seat or business class otherwise you\'ll be standing)

Good call with the train reservation -- business class has some good Stone craft beer -- and has reserved seating. If Opening Day is any guide it will be a zoo+.

spoil yourself.  Stay at The Lodge next to the Hilton - it\'s right on the golf course.
When you want to hang with the masses, come on down to the Hilton Garden Inn next to the track.  I\'ll buy you one.

Roger?

Thanks Shanahan the Lodge is sold out.
So far I\'m leaning towards Carlsbad, seems like the best bang for the buck.
Really want to stay at a place on the beach overlooking the ocean.
Train tip sounds solid,maybe Uber?
Biggest thing holding me up may be ticket prices to the Breeders Cup.
I want to experience the event, but I want to be able to relax and handicap,so my splurge may be on event tickets.
Again TY everyone.
