Title: Seminar move?
Post by: TGJB on August 09, 2016, 07:14:59 AM
We are in discussions with Siros to move the seminars there. If we do it would probably start Alabama weekend, starting 11:30 Saturday and Sundays. Thoughts?

After the way you/we were treated this past Saturday you would be foolish NOT to move it...plus, I\'m sure that the ambient noise level at Siro\'s will be significantly lower thereby actually allowing us to hear you!  Comments??

Excellent move by the TG Marketing folks, cross-selling, cross-branding with a
landmark trackside establishment.

Only one (other) man\'s vote really matters, the man who will likely attend more
seminar sessions than JB and AB combined.

Who knows maybe the salad days at the Carolina Cue (mixed some food groups there)
can be revisited. Not going to happen up in the Carousel.

Jerry and Alan would look wonderful in red. 1130 start time on TGAB days could have folks running for the windows to make the first race?

I\'m a bad one to ask about start times, I\'m up very early and think first post at 900 daily would be awesome!

Since the venue will now be Siros, are you sure JB means 11:30 AM or PM???

I agree, good move. My hearing is not what it used to be and I had problems @ the carousel. I\'ve been to the Spa many times, but never to Siro\'s. Where do you enter from inside the track behind the walking ring or off of Nelson Ave.?

Alan and I just discussed that very question, we\'ll have to figure it out. I\'m open to opinions.

A factor here is they apparently do breakfast there...

I\'m not being a wise guy with this comment but how many attending the seminar do NOT have on line accounts?  I don\'t think that running to the windows if the seminar runs long is an issue at all...plus Frank D already has the spot in the backyard already staked out for the rest of the meet so that shouldn\'t be an issue either... comments?

I would think that it would have to be an upgrade over the Carousel.  Acoustics there are not good with ambient noise and it always feels like we are under the gun to finish before getting the bum\'s rush.  I wager online so, for me, time is not a concern, and I rarely sit in the clubhouse, so it galls me to pay them three dollars for anything.  Of course, I\'m only there one or two weekends, so my input should only count about 1/5 of Frank D. and any other regular.

One of the drawbacks about time constraints at the carousel are the gates not opening until 1030 and not being able to start the seminar until 1040. Its very rare to start on time. Starting at 1130 promptly gives ample time IMHO
an hour should suffice and if it runs a few minutes over, no big deal. It still gives those who want to be inside for the 1st race plenty of time to get there.

We tease Alan about his lengthy seminars but truly the difference only lies in if you don\'t like a race you say no opinion and go on where Alan may try to provide some possible options.

There is no doubt for business purposes holding it at Siro\'s will draw a lot more folks.Left over breakfast patrons, those who stumble in etc... Where the carousel location was not a place to be stumbled on by accident. You got a bit of that on the BBQ deck out of curiosity.

So long as possession of the day\'s figures is a condition of participation, it would be interesting to observe adjusted rate of growth . .

Speaking of which, those present for Saturday\'s seminar got to witness the following exchange when I got to about the third race:

New guy at the seminar: \"When you say \"a top\", you mean on Beyer figures\"?

Me: \"No\".

Guy: \"You make your own figures\"?

Me: \"Yes...\"

Guy: \"How are they diferent from Beyer figures\"?

Sorry I missed that.

I vote for Siro\'s - maybe at 11:15

I should be back August 20 for the seminars - will not make this week.

I will have my vet clearance by then.

Wasn\'t at the seminar this past weekend but anytime I have been since the move to the carousel I have felt very unwelcome by the waitstaff.  Anything would be an improvement over that.

The group was encountering an obvious, heavyhanded, bum\'s-rush attitude by house staffers at the conclusion of last year\'s sems, upstairs.   Go where you\'re wanted.

The best part was your deadpan delivery a la Liev Schreiber as Ray Donovan, your eyes never leaving your notebook, and just a hint of a sneer in the corner of your mouth.

I was trying to be nice, there was a girl there.

By the way, I ran into her at the sale Monday night. Turns out she has a mouth that would make Tony Soprano blush. Quite the surprise.

Yeah, if it had been an early 60\'s movie, she looked like she would have been played by Sandra Dee.
