Anti racing NY Gov Cuomo wins his fight to keep control over NYRA.Word out of Albany suggests no deal could be made with Gov by June 16 deadline.
During the Belmont Stakes, Cuomo, absent per usual, was at a small town upstate Fair....nice slap at the game.
Anybody know what\'s in it for him?
I.Power to make a money grab if necessary, cut subsidies and redirect to general fund.
2.Ability to exercise control thru his politically appointed stooges at NYRA/NYSGC.
3.Close Aqueduct(a certainty)and build a huge complex, hotel casino et al, given its proximity to JFK(estimates of huge windfall $$ to NY State) a plan exists on paper.
4.Revenge for his dad who was shunned by the blueblood waspy upstate racing crowd back when.
....probably more
Have heard that after a certain candidate self destructs on the national stage,
might turn eyes towards challenging Cuomo.

I heard out of Albany (can\'t evaluate how reliable) that number 3 of Miff\'s list should be #1A and #1B. Basically, the land that Aqueduct and Belmont are on revert to the state once they are no longer used for racing. His view is he should own and control that enormous public resource not somebody else. Only way to achieve that is to figure out a way to end racing there.
Had not entirely thought through ramifications of AQ closure but #3 & #4 make total sense...good stuff Mike - and Cuomo is slime.
