Title: Baze Retires
Post by: P-Dub on June 13, 2016, 01:15:46 PM
Just heard the news that Russell Baze has retired.

My first ever trip to a racetrack was 30+ years ago at Bay Meadows. Had a chance to chat briefly with him that night, nicest guy you could ever meet.

All time winningest jockey. We can talk about the many wins at smaller tracks on the best horse, his lack of success when he move his tack to So Cal, etc.. Russell is a class act and one of the good guys. He rides a cheap claimer with the same drive as a stakes horse. He would routinely be a guest at the Pre race seminars on the fair circuit, and be extremely gracious with his time.

He\'s retiring relatively healthy with no regrets. Been a privilege to watch this guy race every day for years.  Russell the Muscle. Enjoy your retirement, you\'ve earned it.

Amen!

and the best tonic ever for a losing streak some days he\'d win 6 or 7 races of course hard to get more than 7/5, as well as believe he could possibly win another.
