So far the effort has not been worth the outcome as the horses identified as being on the dead turf rail on Preakness Day are 3-0-0-1 in their returns. Captain Dixie (8/1) makes his return on Wednesday, June 8 in Del 7 at 1 1/8 miles on the turf. Of all the horses that ran on the turf rail Preakness Day, I thought he performed the best. He was entered in a tough race (Dixie-G2) and finished fourth by less than a length after racing right on the rail until they swung for home. There were a few spots on the backstretch where it looked like he took bad steps in deeper areas of water. He also had to check a bit behind Conquest Typhoon (who is the other one I really want to see what he does when he comes back) late on the far turn, then he swung it wide and had a bit of traffic problems. He has been improving every start for Ness. Trainer is "just" 18-10-5-2 at Del so far this meet for a 56% win rate and 94% in the money. Just the Ness factor alone make this horse about half his morning line I would expect although he does face a salty bunch for this level. The main danger in my opinion is Cement Clement who may get his own way up front and breeze on the lead. Speed generally plays well on the Del turf and this one is 4-2-1-1 over the surface. The two to his outside have some speed, but usually seem content to stalk, so he might just have it his own way up front. Still, I think Captain Dixie could be very tough here.
FYI - Evidently also made the Preakness Dead Turf Rail List and is entered for June 10 in Bel 2.
In a month or so you can send me the list and I\'ll post all the sheets here.
I will do just that.
the one i\'m waiting for is private client. was weaving in between horses down on the inside.
The Ness horse will be 5-2 at best if the race stays on the turf, which is a big if.
The first 4 horses you mentioned were not even close to the winner on Preakness Day and Copingaway on 7 days rest with a 1% trainer shouldn\'t even be included anyway. The horses we have coming up like Private Client and Evidently will tell the tale.
He scratched.
