Title: The Elephant in the Room
Post by: SoCalMan2 on May 08, 2016, 08:55:05 PM
Why is nobody talking about any fillies going in the Preakness?  I wonder if Nyquist could break into the Exacta if Songbird, Cathryn Sophia, and Carina Mia ran in the Preakness.

Before the point system, there was plenty of talk of fillies taking on the boys (and they did it plenty of times).  Now with the point system it is like Soviet times, no even talk about it.

This year was relatively weak on the boys side, while on the fillies side....there looked to me like there were three legitimate fillies who would be strong....plus they get 5 pounds!!

Maybe I missed it and this was noted elsewhere. Maybe some fillies should enter the Preakness and avenge Genuine Risk! Was it Codex and Forty Niner who ganged up and bullied her around?  Or am i mixing things up...doing this from memory with no research

Just Codex and Cordero.

Forty Niner was the one that gutted Winning Colors.

But then, Personal Ensign took her heart too.

Hey Host, what is your view of Cathryn Sophia or Carina Mia versus Nyquist?  Am I off in right field (or the parking lot) again?

Also, will we ever see the likes of fillies like Genuine Risk, Winning Colors, Eight Belles, Rachel Alexandra, Rags To Riches again?  Maybe the point system should be modified so a dominant filly will score enough points to squeak into the top 20 of the boys?

Pretty unlikely they bring them back on two weeks against a short priced favorite. Rachel was going against a 50-1 shot that won in the mud, and she had won by 20. No chance Mott does it, Servis is from that area but still unlikely.

Nothing wrong with the point system SoCal. There was nothing except injury
which would have prevented Songbird from shipping cross country for the Wood,
beating up on a bunch of overrated colts, and leaving town with enough points
to be eligible for Louisville.

The point system requires that a filly prove her worth by competing in one of
the major preps v. colts.

No way to describe that 30 second or so instrumental intro to \"Monkey Man\"...

Can\'t explain how or why, but it always seemed to me to be the Rock N Roll version of the intro to Rhapsody in Blue.....both timeless and immortal feeling
