Title: Louisiana Derby - Gun Runner
Post by: Silver Charm on March 24, 2016, 07:18:51 PM
Pretty interesting sort here. May not have cared for the sloppy going the one time he lost. Has never sprinted and held sway in his last coming off the bench. I think he will he the favorite.

Hopefully they have a window of decent weather to get tomorrows card in. The sun is coming out this afternoon there and only 30% chance of rain for tomorrow during the day, 80% tomorrow night.

They have a great race card on tap let\'s hope for fast/good. A lot of drums beating for Mo Tom!

Frank

Put me into that fife and drum core.  Mo Tom will move forward off that pair, question is will it be good enough.

Win or lose, tough to take 6/5 or so on Mo Tom.

That is an overloaded bandwagon.

Gun Runner a fair price.  Can\'t like the way schettino is handling a potential derby horse, but the 2 is a quality animal.

This is not an attack on the ROTW, but the bet/position against Land over Sea was based on what look like slow TG figures for Songbird (and of course Land over Sea).  The result seems to reinforce that potential view.  Songbird faster elsewhere.

Not that it matters what Songbird\'s figures are, as if she gets to the Oaks she will be a Rachel Alexandra-like favorite....  Actually not that big, but she can\'t be higher than 3/5

Hope everyone got a piece of that! The best horse won. One ting I have notice about Geroux is he has one helluva a stick in the stretch.

Much the best.  About a second behind the older horses, so not fantastic but not a disaster either.

Someone needs to speak to Mo Tom\'s connections.  If his style is passing tired horses, this will happen every time if he\'s going to run up the rail. Doesn\'t get to the winner, but 2nd for sure.  At this point, bottom of the exotics for the Derby.

Gun Runner now showing positional early speed, which is often a sign of a horse really coming into form.

A few quick thoughts (some are contradictory):

1.  Horse won easy (no stick needed Silver).  A good sign.

2.  Despite the open length win, the time is slow on the clock relative to the other races.  Hard to gauge.  Will wait to see how TGJB and others rate race.

3.  Starting to look like GreenPoint Crusader a wet track horse and nothing more.

4.  Would not be jumping on the Mo Tom bandwagon off another \"bad trip\".  As I said before this race, he was an underlay.  Horses without an ounce of tactical speed have to get awfully lucky.

5.  Gun Runner could be interesting going forward and usually a win in Louisiana doesn\'t fill up your bandwagon.

Rob,

GR is ok, agree a bit more stalky, but fence could make that tricky read.Slow race on clock, perfect trip, wrong lead late under pressure doesn\'t excite me.Fig will be non threatening as derby figs go, needs forward move, solid trainer, good breeding, has license to hurry up.

Mo Tom hitting wall/rail literally, hard to get a handle on him, seems to have big run, not athletic. Could be Kool Aid managed as he seems to sit inside even when seams open up outside.

The rest of them.....yuck.

Miff Beyer I\'m gonna guess he paired. He picked up 6 lbs off his last bit also won by 4 and 1/2. As you said other than Mo Tom he has proven to be clearly better than these. I wouldn\'t worry about the lead change. He lost focus a little. The Jock checked the infield big screen twice and decided to just him home. No doubt he has to get better.

Sounds like things got heated between Amos and Lanerie. Shouting angry words, yanked from the next mount and then an apology. At least no punched were thrown!!

Dallas Stewart in with another bomb.
Tom\'s Ready sheet is more Golden Soul than Commanding Curve.

Think they might alter his running style to drop all the way back and make one run which is the only way he can factor.

I\'m not saying I like him but he\'d be the only one I consider using underneath out of the race.
