As I started to get ready to get ready to research the Louisiana Derby, I noticed a piece from Horse Racing Nation \"Nine Late Nominations to the Triple Crown\".
First, American Pioneer (Awesome Again), visually impressive winner of the MSW 11th in 1:44.46. Only two races and owned by the Wests. Probably headed for the Arkansas Derby since many from the Rebel will be avoiding BB and graded stakes company for that matter. Catalano trains.
The other Catalano trainee Fourth of July (Street Cry) winner of the 6th on the same card, a 1st level AOC which went a tick faster looked like he could run all day just not very fast for the first 6f. Note - HTW the pace setter PolticallyCorrect (is there such thing anymore - argh) claimed by Maggi Moss. 7/4 s/b already nominated? One or the other to the Bluegrass?
Second, Zapperini (Ghostzapper) trained by G. Foley and I thought entered for Saturday\'s Louisiana Derby. I guess a $6K TC nomination is a small enough premium to pay compared to the $200k price of late admission should the colt jump up and get the requisite points. Add to that the $11K cost of going in the LaD and he needs to run 5th to avoid losing money. OK, he finished 5th in the Risen Star off a curious effort that was anything but confidence inspiring. Now, I\'m thinking that race (his last) wasn\'t representative for whatever reason. At the expected 30/1 mutual I may have a tri/super helper. Generally, I don\'t like also rans in preps preferring new shooters, but as I mentioned just prepping to prepare - last weeks angle won\'t work here and it is probably too early for a trust in Dallas Stewart play..... probably?

____________
One must wonder if Tavasco is sleep deprived posting in the middle of the night. Check the Fine Print my friend, Fourth of July is a 4yo, foaled in 2012.
As for Zapperini, it looks like a calculated risk that if he gets the points to get in the Derby, they save $194k to pursue Derby dreams.

Yessiree, thanks for setting that age detail straight.
So suddenly my imagined burgeoning three y/o prospect has become an underachieving 4 y/o heading who knows where? I still think he finished strong and will follow him with decreased interest, for a race or two.
Zapperini- Still seems an optimistic move by connections.
